But Divinity 2 demands too much and gives too little. TL DR I am not a stranger to games that are maybe not completely user-friendly, such as Pillars of Eternity, early Fallouts, or Wasteland 2 and 3. The times when I level up and get points to be able to put into roleplaying attributes or perks are few and far between, and usually I need those points for combat capabilities to stay ahead of the curve when I DO get them! In Divinity, I feel like the way to do almost anything is one super specific hard-to-identify way, and it’s infuriating, especially because the game is a series of messy web-like hallways with slow walk speeds, like the places you go see either cluttered with a million things to step over or long stretches of NOTHING except maybe stupid traps like constant poison pits and oil spills that make me even slower. I also feel like I can spec a party of characters in other games in a way where I can at least get like 60 percent of the content and quest options without sacrificing combat capabilities, but I don’t feel like I can do that in this game. I can convince someone to do something they otherwise might not do, maybe sneak around, hack something, lockpick something, get help from another person or faction, maybe bribe or blackmail them. One of the things I enjoy a lot about PoE and the Wasteland games is that if there’s an approach to a situation that I can reasonably think of, there’s usually a way to do it. Honestly, I feel that way about a lot of this stuff, I feel like this game expects me to know a lot of things beforehand or be doomed to endlessly wonder around and try to figure things around on your own, which would be fine except I CAN INTERACT WITH LITERALLY EVERYTHING, and it’s just WAY too overwhelming, and I’m saying this as someone who considers themselves quite patient and knowledgeable when it comes to video games, and that’s not me bragging, I’m just saying that before anyone comes in with any of the GIT GUDs. The combat is fun, sure, but sometimes it feels lopsided and unfair unless you know exactly what and how to MIN/MAX by looking up a guide beforehand, including juggling way too much gear with way too many stat changes that are actually kind of important to keep your characters ahead of the game. Nearly every character in this setting is either an idiotic sounding country bumpkin or an unlikable snob. I feel like everything is happening TO my character, and most of the time me finding out what to do next is someone dumping exposition on me, or another character doing cool stuff that I feel like I wish my character was doing or at least helping with. Why aren’t there a lot of opportunities to actually roleplay as a character? There’s barely any real decision making, and most of the dialogue leads to the same conclusions and responses. I’m no stranger to games that are mixed bags, and am completely okay with putting up with things like bad UI, micro managing that isn’t super fun, or slow pacing to get to the good meat of a game.īut I can’t stand this game. I’ve completed Wasteland 2 and 3, Fallout 1 and 2, Xcom and Xcom 2, Mutant Year Zero, Pillars of Eternity, among others. I love top-down tactical games, especially lately. After saying on a different sub how much I enjoyed Wasteland 3 and how I thought it was a great RPG from this generation, people really pushed DOS2, saying things like “If you think this game is good you haven’t played DOS2 yet lol.” Of course I had to give it a try. There are plenty of games that I like that I understand that others don’t, but I absolutely can’t stand it. Let me preface by saying I’m so glad that other people seem to find so much enjoyment in this game.
